I Ran This System Manually for Two Years.
I was running a memory care community with a 68 percent caregiver turnover rate. Every few months the team rebuilt itself. Every time someone left, a relationship with a resident left with them.
So I tried something simple. Every shift I put a small card in the break room and asked staff to nominate a coworker. I printed their photos and pinned them to a bulletin board. Every week I handed each caregiver an emoji card and asked how they were really doing.
Within one year, satisfaction jumped from 54 to 82 percent. Within two years, turnover dropped to 35 percent. I did not change pay. I did not change schedules. I changed how visible and heard caregivers felt.
